About Create H///Heather

I’m Heather! (Hence the ‘H’ of CreateH). I’m currently employed as a Decorative Product Specialist (or Interior Decorator) for Sherwin-Williams. I was recently accepted to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh’s Online Division for Graphic Design, I will be transferring there in January. I have a Bachelor’s degree in American Studies, where i spent the majority of my time studying American art and photography. I spent the last semester studying Interior Design, but I’ve found that I’m much more interested in decorating, styling, furniture design and graphic design like typography and art.

I started this blog as a way to document my discoveries as a student of interior design and art school, and to list my loves, hates and wishlists, and all the things I learn along the way. I like to share interior design, furniture design and graphic design news, anything to do with art and anything to do with my work and life. I’m honestly completely obsessed with Mid Century Modern design and Scandinavian design and all of the beautiful prints and patterns from Finland. I love being able to share the things I’m passionate about with my readers. My blog, and interior design are two of the loves of my life. I’m in love with design, and all aspects of it. I can’t NOT be creative, in any parts of my life, from fashion, to my apartment. I love textures, and visual prints and patterns. I am completely enamored with what I do every day, playing with color and making paint, so it’s only natural that my life and work is surrounded by it.
I find inspiration on Twitter and other blogs, through all of the lovely women and bloggers out there that inspire me to continue to write a few times a week, and who love what I love, and what I do. When I first found an interior design blog, and their blog roll, it just seemed to catapoult and suddenly I had hundreds of blogs and THEIR blogrolls and it was this amazing feeling that there were other designers out there who love what I love with design, willing to take risks and not just do ‘beige’ or the typical suburban cookie cutter home. I want to show the public and the trade that risks can be taken with paint, and otherwise.
All in all, I really hope you like my blog, come back and visit often, and *comment!*

I guess some things never change….

This is me at age 9, painting the windows of a local Wendy’s Fast Food Restaurant for my 4th grade art class. I’m in the middle in the white shirt!

Just wanted to say that your site very well designed! I also wanted to ask you about sherwin williams. Has it been a good experience? I work with design students so i’m looking for things outside of big firms to help them get positions.

    Thanks,
    Ryan

P.S. Just noticed that you found madebygirl.com. The woman who owns the company is actually a student of mine. Small world! lol!

Hi There! I had a question about design school and thought you might have some great insight since you lived in a London for a bit. I am wanting to get into the world of interior design/furniture design and possibly merchandising….I was just accepted to the American Intercontinetal University in London and wanted to know if you had any idea of the status of the school, job prospects afterwards or if where you go really changes your job prospects in the creative world. There are a few other schools that I am interested there but they require portfolios to get into them…I have never studied art and design and so don’t have a portfolio..was hoping to get your advice/thoughts or if anyone else has any input I would greatly appreciate it :)

    Thanks!
